The holy city in "Holy shit, it's SNOW" [Feb. 3rd, 2008|03:40 pm]

If you google properly, you can find plenty of pictures of Jerusalem covered in an icy shroud. The most recent pics will be dating back to this wednesday. People are always amazed by the concept of snow in the middle east, and there's something about "sad palm trees in the snow" that apparently boggles the western mind.

I'll admit, snow is cool. I somewhat nostalgic, and it's rare enough that the sense of wonder never leaves. You can also hang out and play with the foreign exchange students - the only people brave enough to brave the deadly cold of 0 degrees celsius.

However. Despite snow being a fairly regular "once a year" occurrence, the city is completely unable to comprehend to concept of snow, much less deal with it.

What is this mysterious white substance coming from the skies? Is it Anthrax? Is it going to explode? Shut down the city! Stop all the traffic! Cancel everything and everyone! We're all DOOMED!111!

So if you need to get out of town or go somewhere, you're essentially screwed (well, at least if you're relying on public transportation you are. Israel doesn't have the same car cult that other countries have)

Unfortunately, the same seems to go for the rest of the country. I've came close to failing the theory portion while getting my drivers license when I didn't figure that the proper thing to do when there's snow on the roads is NOT DRIVE. Srsly.
