"Respect the people that deserve respect" is positively interpreted and "respect the people in position to demand respect" if negatively.
Yeah, there are deeper reasons, but when phrased as a demand, that's what it usually means.

An overtly liberal, pop-culture hip, intelligent evangelical type (nerdy and "in with the internet crowd" to the point of being a Harry Potter fan and quoting Whedon) (which would break all sorts of stereotypes, if I suspected he's even remotely representative of anything at all) goes over the "Left Behind" series. Yeah, there's snark, and humor, but also a deep analysis of the sort of belief system held by the authors and the MILLIONS of psychos who believe this stuff to be literally true and extremely correct prophecies of the near future. Spooky and fascinating. |
